Simply Winery

package design

This concept project was inspired by those who enjoy wine, but know little about the art of tasting. The bottle actually teachesthe learning oenophile [\ˈē-nə-ˌfī(-ə)l\ – wine lover] the common words used in wine tasting so they can learn to taste specific flavors. Tasting and learning these flavors allows them to tell their sommelier what types of wine they enjoy or are in the mood to have. Wine tasting can be an intimidating hobby to break into, so my goal was to create a way for people to learn in their homes & with their friends.

Mean Tea

branding & identity

This project is a semi-tribute to the infamous Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld. Mean Tea is a concept based on that same type of rude service, however here it is intentional. People will come for the experience, and of course the delicious fare. Creating a memorable mark was crucial. Using tea leaves and ancient Asian art as influences, I created this brand solution.

A modern slab-serif typeface and clean lines are used to dinstinguish this tea garden from one your grandmother would go to. Modern abstract art mixed with angry looking portraits further enforce the brand/experience. The brand language is intentionally short and sarcastic.

Amqui Station

branding & identity

Amqui Station is a historic site in Madison, TN. When I met with the director at Amqui it was clear she had a direction, but there was no defined logo or branding being used. This caused all aspects of their communication to look disconnected. Setting out to unify the identity, I pulled elements from the architecture of the building to create a sophisticated mark that communicates both professionalism, for the museum, as well as a contemporary feeling. Having an overall modern feel was important to the director as she is seeking to draw a younger audience to events such as a Music and Folklife Festival. I have since been involved in helping the museum get exhibits planned, designed, and installed.

Experimentation with type in motion. Used audio and animated text to convey a stronger message than either could have done independently.

Chinet

ad & copy writing

Concept product featured in print ad. Thanksgiving is a hard time for us OCD people who would rather not have our food touching. The solution I have created is a 7 compartment plate. This prevents what I call "food contamination."

secondary websites

Rob Watts needed to offer multiple websites to his widely varying clients. From Fortune 500 companies to high school seniors these clients should have very different user experiences with his web presence. Therefore, I created secondary websites to supplement the main site. Toward high school seniors, social media integration was important. For the commercial site, ease of use and simplicity was key when showing off his portfolio to large corporate clients.

Ámbitos Feministas

book design

Ámbitos Feministas is a multidisciplinary journal of criticism pertinent to current feminist issues in Spanish, Spanish-American, Luso-Brazilian, Afro-Latin American, Caribbean, U.S. Hispanic and Latino Studies. I created this cover design to make them stand out in a field of poorly designed journals. The objective was to communicate feminism without the overuse of traditional visual female triggers such as colors. Also incorporating a Spanish/Hispanic/Latino overtone to the cover without using traditional visual cues.
